About HUA Sports

Hua Sports is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 2023, building upon a decade-long foundation of the DC Tsinghua Running Club to promote athletic activities and a healthy lifestyle within the Greater Washington Chinese American community.

The organization provides a professional platform for high-quality sporting events, including USATF-certified marathons along the scenic C&O Canal, while fostering a cohesive community through the shared values of fitness and volunteerism.

History

Hua Sports traces its roots back to a decade of community-driven fitness, evolving from a local running group into a professional athletic organization. Our journey is defined by the transition from informal Sunday morning jogs to hosting USATF-certified competitive events that unite and empower the Greater Washington Chinese American community

2014 — Roots in the DC Tsinghua Running Club

The organization’s journey began when a group of alumni began training for the Marine Corps Marathon, establishing a decade-long tradition of Sunday morning runs along the C&O Canal.

2023 — The Vision for a Professional Platform

As the running group grew, leaders envisioned a formal non-profit to host "BQ" (Boston Qualifier) style races and professional athletic events for the broader Chinese American community

December 2023 — Official Non-Profit Incorporation

Hua Sports was officially established as a 501(c)(3) organization and became a registered member of USA Track & Field (USATF) to ensure professional event standards.

October 2024 — Inaugural Certified Half Marathon

The first official Hua Sports Half Marathon debuted with USATF course certification and professional timing, establishing our reputation for high-caliber race execution.

Spring 2025 — Expansion into Golf, Tennis, and Badminton

The organization diversified by launching specialized divisions, hosting its first Golf open classes & tournament, Tennis Social, and a major regional Badminton Club Team Tournament

October 2025 — Scaling to a Full Marathon Series

Building on previous success, the signature running event expanded to include 5K, Half, and Full Marathon distances, attracting competitive runners from across the U.S. and Canada
